Open Thunderbird and from the ‘tools’ menu choose ‘account settings’.
In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue click the ‘Add account’ button to open the new account wizard.
In the ‘New account setup’ dialogue check ‘email account’ and press the ‘Next’ button.
In the ‘Identity’ dialogue enter your ‘name’ and ‘email address’ then press the ‘Next’ button.
In the ‘Server information’ dialogue check ‘IMAP’, Enter ‘mail.lumison.net’ as the incoming server and press the ‘Next’ button.
In the ‘Usernames’ dialogue enter your ‘username’ and press the ‘Next’ button.
In the ‘Account name’ dialogue enter a name to identify the account and press the ‘Next’ button.
You will be presented with a summary of the account settings, press the ‘Finish’ button.
In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue select ‘server settings’, check the ‘SSL’ option under ‘security settings’, note that the port changes to 993 and press the ‘OK’ button.
In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue select ‘outgoing server’, highlight the default server and press the ‘Edit’ button.
In the ‘SMTP settings’ dialogue enter ‘mail.lumison.net’ as the server name and press the ‘OK’ button.
Note that ‘mail.lumison.net’ will only work if you are connected directly to the Lumison network. If you normally connect to us but are travelling you can use authenticated SMTP otherwise please contact your ISP for their SMTP server details..
In the account settings dialogue press the ‘OK’ button.
You will notice that the new account folders have been created so now press the ‘get mail’ button and enter your password when requested, note that you can use the password manager to store the password if you wish.
The imap folders will now download from the server. Note that this is a copy of what is stored on the server, unlike pop which downloads and deletes the mail.
