Home > How to configure email clients for Lumison POPboxes > Using Microsoft Outlook Express 6 - switching from POP3 to IMAPS.
To migrate from using POP to IMAPS email collection you will need to remove your current POP account configuration and replace it with a new IMAPS account. The email that has already been downloaded will remain within your existing personal folders located on your computer.
Open outlook express and from the ‘tools’ menu choose ‘accounts’.
In ‘Internet Accounts’ dialogue box, select the ‘mail’ tab, Highlight your existing POP3 account and press the ‘Properties’ button.
Select the ‘Servers’ tab and check that both the incoming and outgoing mail servers are set to ‘mail.lumison.net’, if not you will need to note the server settings before proceeding, and then press the’Cancel’ button.
In ‘Internet Accounts’ dialogue box press the ‘Add’ button and select ‘Mail’.
Enter your display name and press the ‘Next’ button.
Enter your email address and press the ‘Next’ button.
Select ‘IMAP’ for the incoming server type, enter ‘mail.lumison.net’ as both the incoming and outgoing server, then press the ‘Next’ button.
Note that ‘mail.lumison.net’ will only work if you are connected directly to the Pulsant network. Your current outgoing server settings were noted earlier and you should use those settings if you do not connect directly to us.
Enter your mailbox account ‘username’ and ‘password’ then press the ‘Next’ button.
Press the ‘Finish’ button.
In the ‘internet accounts’ dialogue highlight the new account and Press the ‘Properties’ button.
Select the ‘advanced’ tab, check ‘This server requires a secure connection’ below ‘Incoming mail (IMAP)’, note that the port number changes to 993, and Press the ‘Apply’ button followed by’OK’.
In the ‘internet accounts’ dialogue highlight the new account and Press the ‘Set as default’ button.
In the ‘internet accounts’ dialogue highlight the old account and Press the ‘Remove’ button.
Click the ‘close’ button on the ‘Internet accounts’ dialogue.
When asked whether you would like to download folders from the server click ‘YES’.
Once downloaded you can select to show/hide the folders as required and then click the ‘OK’ button.
The new folders will now appear, note that unlike POP access these folders relate directly to what is currently stored on the mail server.
