Using Microsoft Outlook 2007 - switching from POP3 to IMAPS configuration.

To migrate from using POP to IMAPS email collection you will need to remove your current POP account configuration and replace it with a new IMAPS account. The email that has already been downloaded will remain within your existing personal folders located on your computer.

  1. Open Outlook 2007 and from the ‘tools’ menu choose ‘Account settings’.
  2. In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue box select the ‘E-mail’ tab, highlight your existing account and click the ‘Change’ option.
  3. In the ‘Internet E-mail settings’ dialogue box check that both the incoming and outgoing mail servers are set to ‘mail.lumison.net’, if not you will need to note the server settings before proceeding, and then press the’Cancel’ button.
  4. In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue box select the ‘E-mail’ tab and click the ‘New’ option.
  5. In the ‘Choose email service’ dialogue box check ‘Microsoft exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP’ and press the ‘NEXT’ button.
  6. In the ‘Auto account setup’ dialogue box check ‘Manually configure server settings’ and then press the ‘Next’ button.
  7. In the ‘Choose E-mail service’ dialogue box check ‘Internet E-mail’ and then press the ‘Next’ button.
  8. In the ‘Internet E-mail settings’ dialogue box enter your name and email address, Select ‘IMAP’ for the account type, enter ‘mail.lumison.net’ as both the incoming and outgoing server, enter your account username/password and then press the ‘More settings’ button.
Note that ‘mail.lumison.net’ will only work if you are connected directly to the Lumison network. Your current outgoing server settings were noted earlier and you should use those settings if you do not connect directly to us.
  9. In the ‘More settings’ dialogue box select the ‘Advanced’ tab, change the encrytion type to ‘SSL’ for the incoming server (IMAP), note that the port number changes to 993, then press the ‘OK’ button.
  10. In the ‘Internet E-mail settings’ dialogue box press the ‘Test account settings’ button, ensure that both send / receive pass and then press the ‘close’ button. NOTE – If either of the tests fail you will need to retrace your steps to find the error.
  11. Once the tests have passed press the ‘Next’ button.
  12. You will be advised that account setup is complete, press the ‘Finish’ button.
  13. You will now see the new IMAP folder appearing in the ‘mail folders’ window. Note that unlike POP access these folders relate directly to what is currently stored on the mail server.
  14. In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue box highlight your new IMAP account and click the ‘Set as default’ option.
  15. In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue box highlight your old POP3 account and click the ‘Remove’ option.
  16. In the ‘Account settings’ dialogue box press the ‘Close’ button..
