Using Microsoft Outlook 2003 - configured for POP3.

Start up Outlook. Click the ‘Tools’ menu item at the top of the screen and select ‘Email Accounts…’.

Ensure that the ‘Add a new email account’ radio button is selected and click ‘Next’.

On the next screen click the ‘POP3′ radio button and click‘Next’.

On the next screen you need to input quite a lot of information. Start on the left-hand side under ‘User Information’ by typing your name as you would like it to appear in people’s inboxes when you send them an email.

Then enter your email address below this.

Under ‘Logon Information’ type the username of your Lumison POPbox account and then the password beneath this. You can choose to select the ‘Remember password’option or not. If you do not tick this box you will be prompted for the assword every time you logon to check your email (this may be an inconvenience but is more secure). Do not tick the box for ‘Secure Password Authentication’.

Under ‘Server Information’ the Incoming mail server (POP3) should be set to ‘mail.lumison.net’. If you are using a Lumison internet connection then your outgoing server (SMTP) should also be set to ‘mail.lumison.net’. If you are notusing a Lumison internet connection you should use your own ISP’s outgoing mail server(SMTP). For example if your internet is provided by BT then you should contact them and find out what you need to type in the outgoing mail server field. If you are not using a Lumison internet connection and would still like to use a Lumison SMTP server please see this article on how to do this.

For the purposes of this demonstration assume that you are on a internet connection provided by Lumison.

Click the ‘Test Account Settings’ button to verify you have entered the required information correctly. You should see something like the following:

Click ‘Nexr’ and then ‘Finish’. That’s the account added to your Outlook now.

If you need to change or check any settings at a later stage you can go to the ‘Tools’ menu item as before and select ‘Email accounts’ and then ‘View or change existing email accounts’. On the following screen highlight ‘mail.lumison.net’ and click the ‘Change’ button on the right-hand side.

This will take you back to the ‘Internet E-mail Settings’ screen from before. You can also edit further settings by clicking on the ‘More Settings…’ button.

Here you can edit settings such as ‘Reply-to’ email address, outgoing mail server, SSL and more. You can find articles on using these settings elsewhere in this knwoledge base.
