SMTP Relay, using Pulsant as a smart host, or DNS Delivery

If you have your own mail servers then you can choose to either relay through Pulsant’s mail server (as a smart host) or you can configure your mail server to deliver mail via directly using DNS.

If you wish to use Pulsant as a smart host you will need to be connected directly to the Pulsant network and configure your server to use mail.lumison.net as the smart host.

Note that there are recipient/size restrictions on the Pulsant server.

If you require to send to larger numbers of recipients (e.g. mailshots) of up to 500 emails in an hour, you should not send via mail.lumison.net, as our bulk email policy will apply.

If you configure your mail server to send directly via DNS then your server will connect to the destination server and deliver the mail to them. This means you have greater visibility of whether or not the message was accepted by the destination server and if you are noticing delays you can pinpoint where the problem lies much more quickly.
