Guides for using SSL with your email client

SSL for Mozilla Thunderbird

Start Thunderbird and click on ‘Tools’ and then ‘Account settings…’.

In the left-hand pane select ‘Server Settings’ and then under ‘Security settings’ on the right-hand side select ‘SSL’ radio button. Do not tick the box for ‘Use secure authentication’. Ensure that the port number changes to ’995′.

SSL for Microsoft Outlook 2007

Start Outlook and click the ‘Tools’ menu option at the top of the screen and select ‘Account Settings…’.

Make sure that your account is highlighted and click the ‘Change…’ button.

Click the ‘More settings…’ button in the bottom right of the screen.

Click the ‘Advanced’ tab and under ‘Incoming server (POP3)’ tick the box for ‘This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)’. Ensure that the port number changes to ’995′. Click ‘OK’.

This will bring you back to the ‘Account settings’ screen. Click ‘Test Account Settings…’.

SSL for Mac Mail (OS X)

Open Mac Mail and click on the ‘Mail’ menu option at the top of the screen and choose ‘Preferences’.

On the ‘Accounts’ tab click ‘Advanced’. Tick the box marked ‘Use SSL’. Ensure that the port number changes to ’995′.

Send yourself a test email to check everything is working.

SSL is a security protocol that encrypts internet traffic. It can be used in conjunction with your email client for Lumison POPboxes if your email content is of a sensitive nature.

 

SSL for Microsoft Outlook Express 6

Start Outlook Express and click the ‘Tools’ menu option and then select ‘Accounts’.

Click the ‘Mail’ tab and make sure that ‘mail.lumison.net’ is highlighted and then click the ‘Properties’ button on the right-hand side.

Go to the ‘Advanced’ tab and tick the box under ‘Incoming mail (POP3)’ for ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’. Make sure that the port number changes to ’995′. Click ‘Apply’ to save the settings.

SSL for Microsoft Outlook 2003

Start Outlook and click the ‘Tools’ menu option at the top of the screen and select ‘Email accounts…’.

Select the ‘View or change existing accounts’ radio button and click ‘Next’.
